• “Fuzzy” original music video. Thanks to Rainbow Reservoir.
“Excellent Indie from England”
First streamable on YouTube from November, 2017, before settling down to live on their debut LP “Channel Hanna” in February, 2018.
Oxford’s Rainbow Reservoir, est. 2014, are driven by Connecticut-born, more talented than she lets on, multi-instrumentalist Angela Space (vocals, guitar) with friends coming and going at various times to support. On the album, Ian Hargest plays bass and Max Higgs is on the drums. Singing the group’s theme song intro on the video is Parisa Rajappan, after whom the lead sock puppet is named! An RR mega-fan, Parisa lives at Rainbow’s End, a home for odd socks and, I’m led to believe, gets up to all sorts of adventures in the group’s Rainbow’s End series.
The cutesy intro theme (not on the album) gives way to the real fuzz-bomb action after 20 seconds, when we get to know Parisa, her love for RR, and her dreams of being a rock n roll star herself. School days can’t pass quickly enough as she looks forward to Sockstock which, this year, will be headlined by her favourite band, yep, you’ve guessed it, Rainbow Reservoir. Just past the 90 seconds mark, her guitar playing dreams sound a bit off, but it’s all part of the charm and the puppet massive are mad for it; it’s the best burn it down since Urusei Yatsura.
Frankly, the final revelation that “fuzzy wuzzy was a girl who skinned a cat and became a squirrel” leaves me shocked and stunned. Clearly, there’s a dark side to that Parisa, who’s worth a watching I think.
