“Fantastic Dubbeat from Greece”
From their EP “Jay Glass Dubs vs Guerilla Toss” released in October, 2017.
Brought together by their DFA connection, the energetic post-punk-psychedelics of New York’s Guerilla Toss are brilliantly reworked by Athens, Greece-based musician and producer Jay Glass Dubs (Dimitris Papadatos), who captures their fiery intensity whilst darkly re-imagining the whole sketch in-a-dub-wise-stylee. “The String Game” original was out as a single in May, 2017, serving as the lead single on the Guerilla Toss album “GT Ultra”, a month later. For your interest, the original source:
As you can hear, this is quite the transformation, honing in on the trippy rhythm and finding the spacey potential within Kassie Carlson’s distinctive vocal cries. There a number of magical touches throughout, especially the bass change and rhythmic lift at 3:42 which serves as some kind of electrical super-charge, putting an extra groove in the step and seeing the piece all the way home.
