8.2 “Fantastic Indie from New Zealand”

From their album “Future Me Hates Me” released in August, 2018.

Congratulations are in order to The Beths™ of Auckland, who notched up an impressive double of Best Group & Best Alternative Artist at the 54th New Zealand Music Awards just the other week. And broadcast live on the telly for all the nation to see; bet their Mums were LOVING it!

At the heart of the engine are the core two of Elizabeth Stokes (vocals, guitar) and Jonathan Pearce (guitar, vocals), with Benjamin Sinclair (bass, vocals) and Tristan Deck (drums) keeping the wheels turning and the ride smooth. Surprisingly, they’re all trained jazz musicians, but it’s their hooky and chunky brand of indie pop that’s been going down well since they formed in 2015, culminating in last years well-received debut album and sell-out shows across New Zealand, Europe and the UK.

This one finally came to me several months back, further to its appearance in the 2018 Festive 50 (#25) as voted for by the tasteful Dandelion Radio listenership. Things are moving along nicely for the group, with a second album due shortly and a spring tour of the States lined up to support:
