8.6 “Excellent Indie Pop from Australia”

First released as a digitial single in August 2015. More recently, included on their album “Is This OK?” in March, 2017.

Triple J Unearthed explains a little about the evolution of this Melbourne-based trio:

Gem Bones was formed in the the childhood bedroom of bassist Elizabeth Stacey after singer/guitarist Barrie Wilson (ex-Milk White White Teeth) moved to Australia from his home in the UK. His first stop in his new country was Elizabeth’s parents house in rural Western Australia. The remoteness and dislocation he felt during this time gave Wilson the creative energy to start writing and recording songs for a new musical project.

The brief was thus; the songs were to be short, direct and danceable. Drawing from influences such as Tom Tom Club and The Velvet Underground, a move to Melbourne allowed the band to expand beyond the bedroom – and with the inclusion of drummer James Trewenack – expand their sound. After two years in the making Gem Bones released their debut EP digitally on March 10th 2017.

Heard on Rocker’s November 2015 show on Dandelion Radio.
