Ezra Furman – American Soil

• “American Soil” set to a picture of the housing album cover. Thanks to Giovanni Lo Leggio.

8.9 “Excellent Indie Rock / Alternative Rock from the USA”

From his album “The Year Of No Returning” (Kinetic Family Records KFR-001) released in February, 2012.

This Chicagoan, apparently, is gonna rewrite us a Bible. Quite what that will entail is unclear, but he couldn’t possibly do a worse job, let’s face it.

All we want is to take over your universe” quipped Ezra in a live gig a couple of years back, “We’ve chosen the chords and rhythms to subjugate you to us in certain ways”.

Ambitious. I like that.

In the liner notes he writes about our inability to be quiet and reflect due to the ridiculous amount of time we spend on smartphones, computers, or in front of the TV.

He sounds like a smart operator to me – and his band kill it with hooks, jabs and killer punches.

Play it again Uncle Sam? Why not, eh? Check them out in person below, performing in April 2012 at North Avenue Studios in Orange City, FL for Consequence of Sound’s “Off the Avenue” series.

Superb edge and bite in the raw, clearly the real deal.

Heard on Sean Hocking’s August 2015 show on Dandelion Radio.

You’ll find it at Amazon.
