“Fantastic Moody-Chops from England”
From their album “This Heat” (Piano THIS-1) released in 1979.
I tend to veer between “highly engaged” and “completely disconnected” when it comes to This Heat; when they were good they were great, and their debut set had fantastic cuts such as “Horizontal Hold” and “24 Track Loop” to recommend it.
“Twilight Furniture” represents many of their key attributes; inventive rhythms, an economic use of instrumentation and a moody delivery, all of which are never too far away from the surface on their 1979 LP, which dared to delve deeper into the avant-garde, one step beyond Can.
