Tubeway Army – Replicas

• “Replicas” set to a lyrics video. Thanks to PureExile.

7.5 “Great New Wave from England”

From their album “Replicas” (Beggars Banquet BEGA-7) released in 1979.

As most folks would probably agree, top dog on this set was “Are ‘Friends’ Electric?” (a perfect 10), which I own on 7″ as well as being collected on a myriad of comps. The album was recently new to my collection though, and therefore the great title-track finds a place on my blog today.

A loose concept album, Replicas was based on a book Numan hoped to complete someday, set in a not-too-distant future metropolis where Machmen (androids with cloned human skin) and other machines keep the general public cowed on orders from the Grey Men (shadowy officials).

This one is back in the live sets these days; the grey, shadowy officials have been omnipresent.
