Crab Smasher – Skin Destruction

8.8 “Excellent Indie Pop from Australia”

Was first out exclusively on the v/a comp “New Weird Australia, Volume Five” released in March 2010.

What a great sound… love at first listen for me… that lazy swing gets me hooked early doors before the quartet (Grant Hunter, Nicholas French, Marnie Vaughn and Nathan Martin as they were at the time) smash it like Mogwai playing The Fall. I put this one on loop just before preparing this post and I just can’t bring myself to hit the stop button, five times around.

Experimental/free improvisation/noise pop trio from Newcastle, Australia comprising Grant Hunter, Nicholas French, and Marnie Vaughn. Using cracked electronics and traditional rock instrumentation they produce a playful, clumsy and unpredictable mutation of psychedelic rock, noise, drone, doom, avant-pop, post-punk, electronica, new age/weird etc. ~ Crab Smasher Bandcamp

The whole compilation is downloadable from the Free Music Archive.

Heard on Mark Whitby’s March 2015 show on Dandelion Radio.

p.s. It’s still playing. That’s six times now.
